Jude Robinson's paintings are inspired by her reading of An Interrupted Life - the diaries and letters of Etty Hillesum 1941 - 43 and document the stages in Etty's spiritual journey during her final years.
In these paintings Jude has attempted to encapsulate Etty's extraordinary gift for compassion and acceptance while at the same time acknowledging the true horror of the situation she and her compatriots face under the Nazi occupation of Holland.

In the installation prints of Jude's paintings are encased in thick wooden frames with a single electric tea light resting on the bottom frame. The prints are clustered together on the two walls that join the top right corner of the gallery. At the intersection of these walls larger electric candles sit on metal stands for further illumination. The candlelight creates a framed space for reflection; the sounds of the video playing in the same space inhibits the viewer from becoming complacent in their act of viewing.
As noted Luke’s video Etty is projected in the same room as the prints. The soundtrack of the video is played through two speakers that sit on the floor. The video Etty is a visual and aural melody of horror and Etty’s resistance to this horror.
